Ruisdael, Dutch, 17th century. 4" wide, antique 22K gold leaf over red, hand carved. This frame is an example of the Dutch Louis XIV style, which was used by the greatest Dutch landscape painter of the 17th century, Jacob van Ruisdael (1628-1682). Ruisdael's father, Isaak, in addition to being an established artist, was also a prominent frame maker.
